This gallery of photographs is from a visit to West Bengal in December 2011 with Queen's University Belfast, School of Geography, Archaeology and Palaeoecology. The remit to look at the provenance and sustainability of the area of mangroves in West Bengal known as the Sundarbans.
Images show life in the region and includes a set of pictures taken when walking the length of a street in Shanti Niketan the home of the poet laureate and Nobel prize winner Tagore. Another selection shows the Kolkata Flower market and the evening village scenes are from L-Plot in the Sundarbans.
For those interested in technicalities: The colour pictures and images of village life are taken with a Nikon D3s and Zeiss 50mm lens at incredibly high ISO values. Most of the other black and white images are with an Alpa TC and 60mm Apo Helvetar lens. Camera loaded with Pan F+ film set at an ISO 32, semi stand developed for 60 minutes in Rodinal 1:100 and scanned on an Epson V 750 flatbed scanner.
